Job Description

Soundscape Engineering LLC is seeking an acoustical engineering consultant for our Southeast Michigan office.  Flexible work conditions are offered including full or part time hours and the possibility of working from home a couple days per week.  Candidate will act as lead acoustics consultant for projects involving architectural acoustics, environmental noise assessment, or industrial noise control.

Soundscape Engineering LLC is a small, growing, engineering consulting firm that specializes in acoustics and vibrations for building design and construction, environmental assessment, and industrial facilities.  We consult on projects located throughout the United States, but the majority of our projects and clients are in Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana.  Firm partners Mandy Kachur and Nathan Sevener manage the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on job candidate’s experience and interests, responsibilities may include:

  • Review and analysis of architectural and engineering designs for new buildings and renovations
  • Assessment of acoustical problems in existing buildings
  • Calculations and measurements related to building MEP system noise and vibration control, sound isolation, room acoustics, industrial noise, OSHA, environmental sound propagation
  • Computer modelling of environmental sound propagation
  • Computer modelling of room acoustics
  • Acoustical testing at project site
  • Report Writing
  • Attending meetings
  • Site visits, RFI responses, and submittal reviews during construction administration

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Proficient technical writing skills
  • Good understanding of building mechanical systems
  • Experience with Soundplan, EASE, INSUL, Labview, Excel, ARTA, Audacity, NTi Audio Data Explorer, and TAP or similar preferred
  • Experience performing various types of acoustical measurements
  • Comfortable and confident in meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSE from ABET accredited engineering program
  • 8 years of experience performing similar work at an acoustical consulting firm

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • MSE degree
  • P.E. License
  • INCE Board Certification
