Nathan Sevener, Soundscape Engineering LLC partner and Principal Acoustical Consultant, presented to the Northern Indiana chapter of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers on October 17th.  The presentation, entitled Sustainable Design’s Impact on Building Acoustics, focused on...

...building acoustics and HVAC system noise control problems that have become more common as a result of sustainable design practices.  Issues discussed included radiant cooling and heating system impact on speech privacy, lack of sound isolation resulting from natural ventilation schemes, and distribution of noise sources throughout occupied spaces because of an increased preference for heat pumps over fan-coil units.  The presentation also included a comparison of the noise control performance and cost effectiveness of duct silencers and various types of acoustical duct lining.
